This is the full game of South Carolina vs. Alabama 2010. This was the first time in South Carolina’s history to beat a #1 ranked team.
Nick Saban lets the media have it saying we don’t play for you, we play for each other, and the fans we don’t play for you. If we played for you we would be 6ft under.
On satuday at Tiger Stadium LSU vs South Carolina, it was a strange feeling at Death Valley, with South Carolina being the home team, and the LSU Band playing the South Carolina Fight Song. Overall it was a very good game, depending who you were rooting for, and LSU QB Brandon Harris showed up and threw 18/28, 228 yards in the air and 2 touchdowns, and 11 yards on the ground. LSU comes away with a victory over South Carolina 45-24. The LSU running backs had a very big day, Hesiman front runner Leonard Fournette had 155 yards and a td, Derrius Guise 161 yrds and 1 td, and Darrell Williams 61 yards and 2 tds. The LSU wr’s a big day as well Dural had 109 yards, and 1 td, with a big catch that went over DeSean Smiths hands, and landed in Dural hands, and he was off to the races for a touchdown. LSU wr Dupree had a big game too with 74 yards and 1 td. LSU secondary struggle some today, and the special teams as they gave up a kickoff off return touchdown to South Carolina Rashad Fenton, as he raced untouch to the endzone. LSU has Florida coming up this weekend on saturday for a big heavy weight showdown as the Gators come in at no. 8 in the nation and LSU sits at no.5.

LSU Leonard Fournette reads a heart felt letter to South Carolina people, which Fournette and his family suffer something similiar to what South Carolina is going thru, from the impact of the Katrina storm 10 years ago. Fournette is auctioning off his jersey to the highest bidder for the South Carolina victims, and the NCAA gave Fournette the a okay, and said it was very generous of him.
In Baton Rouge,La this morning it;s overcast and the sun is not out. That might be a blessing in disguise knowing it will not be 95 degrees at game time when LSU vs South Carolina play football today in Tiger Stadium.ย South Carolina will be the home team today in Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge,La. The city of Baton Rouge welcomes South Carolina and their fans and hope they have a fun home-coming visit to Louisiana. It’s interesting that in 2005, ten years ago LSU had to travel to ASU, Tempe, Arizona for a home game out in Arizona to take on the Sundevils. I had a chance to buy tickets and visit Arizona from southern California. I remember back in 2005 and seeing all the LSU Fans in Tempe,Az and it was Les Miles is 1st season as headcoach of the LSU Tigers. I remember sitting there in the stands and Arizona went up on LSU, and pretty much led the entire game until LSU roared back and scored 28 poonts in the 4th qt to win the game 35-31.
Today South Carolina comes in with a record 2-3 and 0-3 in the SEC, LSU comes in 4-0, 2-0 in the SEC, and no.5 in some polls. Booger Macfarland said LSU qb Booger Macfarland will complete 20 passes, if that’s the case Booger, Harris will have to attempt about 35 passes. I don’t see Les Miles throwing the ball 35 times today, maybe 25, but LSU will keep it on the ground to grind the South Carolina defense with Heisman hopeful Leonard Fournette have a big day on the ground. I wonder when Coach Miles and Cam Cameron gonna dump off some screen passes to Fournette. Fournette can break one anytime he wants to, but to take a screen pass and go the distance with all those blockers in front of you and the field spread out, interesting.
South Carolina Coach Spurrier was asked how to stop Leonard Fournette and he chuckle, but said hopefully we gonna try to stop him before he gets tot he line of scrimmage, saying Fournette will get his yards, and hopefully the can force some punts.
There you have it sports fans, Dailycollegefootball.com will have full coverage after the game with photos and commentary, and some videos from the student section. Tickets are still available, as 38,000 tickets are already sold, and more fans are expected to buy more tickets before game time. Tiger Stadium seats 102,000, but alot of people from Louisiana have planned weddings, vacations, and fishing trips knowing LSU would be out of town. I hope about 75,000 show up to support the South Carolina vs LSU Game, proceeds go to South Carolina in Columbia to recover from the flooding and lots of rain that has relocated the game to Louisiana.
This weekend was alot of big upsets, I never seen or heard anything like it. UCLA lost, Georgia lost, Ole Miss lost, and Notre Dame lost. I am listening to Finebaum right now and it’s a fun show. L.arry from Shelby,Alabama drink 42 beers and 4 shots of whiskey, after Alabama beat Georgia 38-10. Alabama is back in the running but LSU is leading the SEC sitting at 2-0 in conference and the highest ranking SEC team at no.5 in the country. This is probably the highest LSU has ever been since 2011 when they were put at no.3 after beating Oregon in Gerry’s World 34-13. Ohio State and Michigan State almost lost as they won respectively by 7 and 3 points. Florida had a big win versus Ole Miss 38-10 in the Swamp, it was a bad loss for Ole Miss who were just coming off a letdown win against Vanderbilt 27-16, yes Ole Miss look shaky before the Florida game. The biggest loss of the day had to be Georgia, when Alabama had a great day on offense. LSU Leonard Fournette had another 200 plus game and 3 tds, Fournette is averaging 16.5 pts a game for LSU. There has been no one to stop Fournette who is leading most categories in the Hesiman Trophy Race. More football to come this weekend, and more upsets to come.
LSU Leonard Fournette is the 1st LSU player in Tiger history to rush for over 200 yards for two games in a row. LSU beats Syracuse today 34-24 upstate New York, as Harris and company had a productive day besides about 65 yards worth of pe
nalties. This is LSU’s 3rd game of the season, I am sure they are still trying to get out the kinks. LSU Treย Davious White did run a punt return back for 69 yards, to help LSU scoring, FOURNETTE had 2 tds on the day, It seems every time LSU would take a lead, Syracuse who was a 5th string QB would bring the Orangemen back into the game.
QB Brandon Harris was 8/16 157 yards, and 1td. Malachi Dupree had a big game of receiving today 4 catches, 71 yards and a touchdown. The defense pretty much held there own but some Syracuse wideouts slipped behind the LSU secondary for 3 tds. Orangemen Zach Mahoney the 5th string QB from College of Dupage had a decent day for 16/38 154 yards, 3 tds and 1 pick. Syracuse Riley Dixon average 45 yards a punt with a big day in special teams. Kickoff specialist Syracuse Estime had 6 receiving punts for 158 yards, so LSU Special Teams have come away with red flags today. I am sure Coach Miles will be talking to the Special Teams Coach. LSU dodge a bulled today being favored by 24, and winning by 10 points, but it goes to show you don’t pay attention to the numbers. LSU takes on Eastern Michigan next Saturday for a night game.
LSU QB Brandon Harris has broken from the pack and is proving he is the leader of the team. One thing Harris does at LSU QB, he is able to scramble if no one is open down field. I am sure LSU will need him quite a bit when they go up and play Syracuse in the Carrier Dome tomorrow at 11am central time. Harris has stats 21-30 for 231 yards no interceptions, and 1 touchdown, and 113 rushing yards. I would say expect Harris to be a big part of the game tomorrow, Fournette should rush for about 175 yards and a couple of tds, if Harris gets to throw the ball around perhaps he can throw for 200 yards, with a couple of 2 tds, and rush for about 75 yards. The LSU Defense should come up with a some turnovers tomorrow perhaps some touchdown returns, the Syracuse defense is ranked 3rd in the nation for rush defense so LSU’s running game will have their hands full against the Orangemen. It should be a very competitive game tomorrow with a very early start time, most people are getting up and eating breakfast around 10 or 11am so you can’t oversleep or it might be the halftime or the 3rd quarter.
Leonard Fournette getting credit to his O Line, and how blocking is the hardest thing to do in football, how he keeps them accountable of playing Championship football, and vice versa, how it’s a brotherhood,. He talks about playing along side of Brandon Harris LSU Starting QB, (Like it’s a dream ) to be playing with Harris. He talks about the backup running backs getting playing time, and getting their 1st touchdowns. Adrian Peterson ย is where he wants to be and imitating him getting to that level.
LSU Tigers took on the Auburn Tigers in some grueling heat even with the field temperature at 110 degrees. The Bayou Bengals put on a show for both of the Tiger Fans and a live tv audience on CBS. LSU got a chance to get revenge from last years game as they manhandle Auburn and beat them 45-21. Leonard Fournette was the game changer as he had 19 carries for 228 yards and 3 touchdowns, each of Fournette’s td were pretty spectacular as he put on a show. LSU qb Brandon Harris had a big game too as he rushed and threw for 2 tds. TE Collin Jeter also caught a touchdown from Harris on a 3 yard toss for LSU’s second score. LSU is 2-0, and 2-0 in SEC play, Auburn suffers their first loss and sits at 2-1, and 0-1 in the SEC. LSU goes on the road to face Syracuse Orangeman in the Carrier Dome on saturday a early 11 am central time start. Leonard Fournette commented after the game saying this was the best game he ever played.Lesย Miles praised Leonard Fournette, who finished with 228 yards and three touchdowns, as well as his fellow running backs, sophomore quarterback Brandon Harris and the team as a whole, including the defense, which “stifled” Auburn quarterback Jeremy Johnson and team. Les Miles had this to say,
“We really wanted to play well in this game. The opportunity to be 2-0 in this conference with a quality Western division is certainly something this football team looked forward to. It’s good to be at home in front of the Tiger faithful. The crowd was on fire. Then it got a little warmer, and halftime occurred, and they probably watched on TV. In the event, we look forward to playing in front of them.
“I thought Brandon Harris did exactly what we asked him to do. He was very accurate. He only overthrew a couple touchdowns. Those things happen, and that’s not an issue with me in any way. He managed the game. He managed the clock and the situations we asked him to operate for us with time bearing down on him. He did a great job. He made plays with his feet and his arm. He got us into the right play. I enjoyed how he performed again.
On Fournette :
“The good news is when he gets a little tired or winded, we have some other good backs to go to. That’s just what we are trying to assess. I’ll tell you one thing, Leonard sure likes playing. He did some things today where I said, ‘Wow.’ He took one of their tackles and threw him into another tackle and still came out in the other end. When you have a big back who can really move his feet, at times, it can be very difficult to tackle him.”
Leonard Fournette is the top runner for the Heisman after his performance against Auburn, but that’s not important to Leonard, he would tell you, team is more important, and getting a National Title is more important than a Heisman Trophy. ย I am sure Fournette is okay with the Heisman to go along with a National Title.
LSU Tigers went in and took care of business in Starkville,Ms. and took care of the Bulldogs, but it came down to a last second kick from state kicker Bell, who missed the 1st kick as Les Miles called a timeout, and them on the second kick it had the distance but would not curve to the left. LSU Fournette was the biggest talk of the night with 3 touchdowns and 158 yards rushing. Fournette was the biggest reason for LSU winning tonight along with the LSU D line who pressure Bulldog Dak Prescott all night and made him throw the ball all over the place in the 1st half. Dak came out the second half and led the Bulldogs back with 2 tds, after LSU was up 21-6. Amazing win by LSU as the went in and took care of business, after not playing last week on a rainout with McNeese State. It seem like everyone knew LSU would bounce back, but Dak was gonna make sure that didn’t happen, as he led a big surge for the Bulldogs late in the 4th quarter. A big game from Brandon Harris as well in his debut with his running and passing from the pocket. LSU will now face Auburn this week for a 2:30pm game versus rival Auburn Tigers who almost lost to Jackson State, which could of been the biggest upset of all time, knowing Auburn was no.6 in the nation. The polls came out LSU moved up at no.13, and Auburn has dropped to no.16 after the overtime win. LSU has it;s work cut out for them, but I am sure the LSU Tigers are ready for another home game with some nice weather ahead.
LSU Coach Les Miles was real chirpy today, and the media didn’t have a lot of questions to ask today, kinda of tongue-tied if I may say.ย Les said, we had a very nice practice, A team with a great attitude. Les likes his team, in position to play a very formidable football team. Les asked about any talk about Miss State, I brought up the Miss State rant, from a Paul Finebaum caller, who considers Scott stadium the new Death Valley since they went 18-3 in the last three years which LSU gave them one of those loses. Les just says Manny Diaz very talented coach. Tuesday and Wednesday practice very good, didn’t change the practice schedule. Coach Miles was asked if he had heard any cow bell music lately, as far as getting ready for this weekend in Starkville,Ms, Miles response, I did not listen to any cow bell music, and couldn’t find it in the stores.
LES MILES PRESS CONFERENCE LUNCHEON 9-8-2015
Questions from the MEDIA
Q. You mentioned your team has certain advantages to not having played the other night. Do you think they outweigh the disadvantages of kind of not getting that experience and some of the young guys getting their feet wet?
COACH MILES: We would loved to have played by far and away. With the idea that now, at this point in time, that’s not possible, then what are the advantages? Well, there are some. We’ll enjoy our preparation, and we’ll be fresh, and we’ll look forward to Mississippi State with the enthusiasm of getting to play the opener.
Q. Les, will Sione Teuhema and Deondre Clark, will they play? I know they weren’t dressed out last week.
COACH MILES: I’m not certain. It depends on if they earn their way there.
Q. How about Mickey Johnson and Chidi Valentino-Okeke?
COACH MILES: Valentine. Valentino is a real kind of a swinging spot you put him on. I think Chidi will be redshirted. Who else did you ask?
Q. Mickey Johnson.
COACH MILES: Mickey Johnson, I don’t think Mickey is going to play.
Q. This week or this season?
COACH MILES: This season.
Q. Followup to the first question about the advantages. As a coach, if you have no film to watch on Mississippi State, obviously, they have no film to watch on you from this season, is that also — to what extent is that an advantage for LSU?
COACH MILES: It’s really not, but your body of work is small. So they get to see what we have, and certainly we share — we didn’t have the weather, certainly we’d have played it. They would have gotten the entire game.
We’ve seen their first game in its entirety.
Q. What’s Brandon’s mentality as he prepared for his first start, then it doesn’t happen, and now he goes on the road?
COACH MILES: I was miserable for him. He was one of the guys who didn’t take his shoulder pads off the whole time. He just really wanted to play. You could see the disappointment in his face.
Obviously, I was gone Monday, but he’s going to play, and he’s going to play well. He just needs to relax and look forward to playing with a very talented team.
Q. Coach, as you game plan for a mobile quarterback for your first couple of games, do you find that Kevin Steele has brought new ideas to the table in how to combat that?
COACH MILES: Yeah, he has a very quality — both he and Ed Orgeron have a very quality view of a mobile quarterback and kind of how to operate. I think, first and foremost, putting speed on the field is the most important piece, and we do that.
Q. We joked after the game that you were going to play ten freshmen on each side of the ball, but clearly you had a commitment early to get those guys on the field. Was that just their talent, or was it opportunity? Why did they kind of open it up a little early?
COACH MILES: That is talent. Those are guys that, frankly, we will see playing in virtually every game. I would guess that the number at some point in time would approach 15.
Q. Coach, you wait all summer for a first game, it gets cancelled, now you’ve got to wait until 8:15 at night. How are you going to keep the team from going stir crazy and keep them calm and everything before this game?
COACH MILES: We only spend two hours on site before the game. So we’ll be in there getting dressed and back out and warming up and taking punts and fielding balls and throwing, catching. So that time will go by very quickly.
Q. This is more of an SEC question. There are a lot of new quarterbacks in the league this year that — you know, new starters. People aren’t sure how reliable or consistent they’ll be. To what extent is that offset in the SEC by the quality of running backs? How much can a running back compensate for — on certain quarterbacks, and what do you think of the SEC running backs?
COACH MILES: It really depends on the offensive line and how good the running back is, and is he in position to carry the load for some time? I don’t know. I can’t answer some of those things for other teams. I think we’re pretty talented there, and I think our offensive line can block it. So we should pose a real issue to some defenses.
Q. Coach, will you use what happened last year as motivation for this year, or is that game long gone? What’s your take on all of that?
COACH MILES: I think our guys recognize, having finished second to a team in our conference, I think most teams recognize that the opportunity to play well and play best is here, and playing in our conference is awfully important to us. I don’t know that you use anything else other than that.
Q. Coach, last week there was a lot of thinking back ten years ago through Hurricane Katrina, when you first came to LSU and the loss of games being played here, then all of a sudden we start this season with a game that’s cancelled because of the weather. Can you draw on your parallels from them, and do you learn anything on how to handle this situation from the way you handled the Katrina situation?
COACH MILES: I think our team is not nearly disadvantaged as the Katrina team was with an hourly reminder with helicopters going overhead. I think that this, although certainly is a weather limitation, it’s certainly not, nor was it, life-threatening in any way.
It cost us the opportunity to play a game, and that’s darn important to us, especially at the end of the season, and it’s darn important to us as we develop a team, but in terms of the parallel, I guess, I think our guys recognize the situation that they’re in, are looking forward to improving this week, recognize that improvement must take place, and looking forward to playing Mississippi State certainly.
I think there’s — I don’t think there’s any fatigue. I think they’re well rested. They had a day off yesterday, and it’s a day off from school, I should say. I think they’re looking forward to playing.
Q. You said that Sione and Deondre have to earn their way back to dressing out. What did you mean by that?
COACH MILES: We play the best players. Certainly, if they’re the best players, they’ll step in there and go.
Q. So is it all performance based, or was it off the field that prevented them from dressing out?
COACH MILES: It’s all performance based. And Chidi’s being redshirted.
Q. Coach, I’m sure you’re aware of the Tom Brady issue with the deflated football. As an old sandlot passer from way back, I can attest that you can throw the ball, and slightly deflated is better than one that’s fully pumped. Is the college football, is the ball standard — I assume that everybody uses the same ball. Who is responsible for seeing the balls are inflated properly? Is it the home team, or who is it?
COACH MILES: The officiating crew. We bring 12 balls or thereabouts to the officials, and they check it. It’s got to be between 12 1/2 and 13 1/2. It’s an amazing thing, in my opinion, how a couple of pounds difference that makes that ball feel, like you’re saying. If you deflate it significantly, man, that ball feels — you have great comfort with the throw.
But good thing about Brandon Harris, he’s got big hands, and he swallows that ball up, and he throws it well.
Q. For Dak Prescott, facing him last year and the last couple years, what makes him so unique? And as big as he is, when he gets full steam ahead, what are the challenges of trying to take him down?
COACH MILES: He’s a big strong guy, and he really has nice command of the offense, does the things that that offense asks him to do. He really, as big as he is, he gets in the right hole and makes a nice cut.
Q. You mentioned Brandon Holloway in your opening statement, 5’8″, 165. Does he do things particularly well that help him overcome any inherent disadvantage in his stature? And do you, based on what you’ve seen, expect that you’ll have to prepare for him as a more regular role than he’s had in the past?
COACH MILES: I would guess that he would play a significant role in the offense. I would say that he would be certainly a kick return guy. But great speed. I don’t think stature has anything to do with it. I think he has a very good stature, very quality stature in terms of how he runs through the field.
Q. There’s been a lot of talk about losing a game and what effect long term that might have. Have you given any thought to playing 11 regular season games if the College Football Playoff Selection Committee, should it get to that, might look negatively upon your team for one less game?
COACH MILES: I have — there’s nothing that I can do about it. At this point in time, I want to prepare and play the season and certainly the season we have remaining and play extremely well and control our own destiny. We do those things, we’re a very talented team. We should control outcomes anyway.
Q. The freshmen getting to go through the pregame and get out there in front of the crowd, how much of a benefit can that be to those guys even in that little bit of exposure?
COACH MILES: The freshmen who get out in front of the team in the warmups?
Q. The freshmen who played for those couple plays and went through the pregame and all that this past Saturday, how much of a benefit can they take from that even though they didn’t play full game?
COACH MILES: It’s a huge benefit. By and large, it is a short game where victory was not determined. But they warmed up. They went through the pregame regimen. They understand what we expect from them from tests and walk-throughs. Then we expect them to get warmed up in a very specific manner. They did.
I have to be very honest with you, offense, defense, and special teams, we had a small number of reps but a very significant number because everything that we do is, and I think that those freshmen that played are benefited greatly.
Q. State had the most yards that LSU has given up since you’ve been here last year. Dak went over 100 yards rushing. What have you guys not been able to accomplish against them that you need to do on Saturday to win that game?
COACH MILES: There was a scramble touchdown that, frankly, we should well have covered, but Dak’s pretty talented too. He’s a guy that makes plays and gets up in the seam, and he doesn’t go down unless you tackle him. I think the key piece to what we’re going to try to do this week is prepare tackling. If we do that, I think it will make a difference.
Q. Coach, now that we got to see kind of what that starting defense looked like with Kevin Toliver on the corner, Dwyane Thomas at nickel, can you tell us about that competition at fall camp and maybe where Ed Paris falls in?
COACH MILES: Again, I think we’re a very talented group in the secondary. Ed Paris, in my opinion, fits right in that group. We don’t hesitate to put him in the game in any way. But Toliver at corner and Dwyane Thomas could also play at corner and a nickel spot. There’s a lot of flexibility with our players because they’re fast and very bright guys. So we think our secondary is capable of making adjustments and using personnel to benefit us.
Q. What kind of things did Toliver do to get a leg up?
COACH MILES: He’s a physical, fast, very — he’s a 6-footer at corner. He can play. He can tackle. He’s a talented man. Didn’t take much for the coaching staff to recognize it.
Q. How do you compensate for not having any game film, not playing at game speed. How do you compensate for that in three days of practice this week? How do you make up for all that?
COACH MILES: You would have certainly enjoyed that, but we didn’t have that game before we played McNeese. So in the exact same position where we’re going to play our best, and we’re going to expect our guys to do the things we’ve taught them to do in terms of block, tackle, and ball security, and let’s go get the ball.
Certainly, if you had a dress rehearsal at all, it would have been great. Thank goodness we didn’t. I would not have been for a lightning strike. I would not have been for finishing at 3:30 in the morning and having injury. And I would not have been for missing an open date before we played Alabama. So frankly, it’s not ideal, but you know what, we’re in pretty good shape. We’re going to look forward to playing this one. I like my team.
Q. Coach, you’ve been to Starkville a few times. What’s your take on cow bells? Is that kind of a unique crowd noise to deal with and rattling?
COACH MILES: I think we need to petition to get some cow bells in our stadium. I think it would be an enjoyable piece as well. Honestly, as much as I’ve been in loud stadiums, I’m not distracted by cow bells.
