LSU Tigers took on the Auburn Tigers in some grueling heat even with the field temperature at 110 degrees. The Bayou Bengals put on a show for both of the Tiger Fans and a live tv audience on CBS. LSU got a chance to get revenge from last years game as they manhandle Auburn and beat them 45-21. Leonard Fournette was the game changer as he had 19 carries for 228 yards and 3 touchdowns, each of Fournette’s td were pretty spectacular as he put on a show. LSU qb Brandon Harris had a big game too as he rushed and threw for 2 tds. TE Collin Jeter also caught a touchdown from Harris on a 3 yard toss for LSU’s second score. LSU is 2-0, and 2-0 in SEC play, Auburn suffers their first loss and sits at 2-1, and 0-1 in the SEC. LSU goes on the road to face Syracuse Orangeman in the Carrier Dome on saturday a early 11 am central time start. Leonard Fournette commented after the game saying this was the best game he ever played.Les Miles praised Leonard Fournette, who finished with 228 yards and three touchdowns, as well as his fellow running backs, sophomore quarterback Brandon Harris and the team as a whole, including the defense, which “stifled” Auburn quarterback Jeremy Johnson and team. Les Miles had this to say,
“We really wanted to play well in this game. The opportunity to be 2-0 in this conference with a quality Western division is certainly something this football team looked forward to. It’s good to be at home in front of the Tiger faithful. The crowd was on fire. Then it got a little warmer, and halftime occurred, and they probably watched on TV. In the event, we look forward to playing in front of them.
“I thought Brandon Harris did exactly what we asked him to do. He was very accurate. He only overthrew a couple touchdowns. Those things happen, and that’s not an issue with me in any way. He managed the game. He managed the clock and the situations we asked him to operate for us with time bearing down on him. He did a great job. He made plays with his feet and his arm. He got us into the right play. I enjoyed how he performed again.
On Fournette :
“The good news is when he gets a little tired or winded, we have some other good backs to go to. That’s just what we are trying to assess. I’ll tell you one thing, Leonard sure likes playing. He did some things today where I said, ‘Wow.’ He took one of their tackles and threw him into another tackle and still came out in the other end. When you have a big back who can really move his feet, at times, it can be very difficult to tackle him.”
Leonard Fournette is the top runner for the Heisman after his performance against Auburn, but that’s not important to Leonard, he would tell you, team is more important, and getting a National Title is more important than a Heisman Trophy. I am sure Fournette is okay with the Heisman to go along with a National Title.
