Hugh Freeze, Ole Miss Head Coach, SEC Football just keeps on getting better
A Mississippi native, inspirational leader and one of the nation’s top rising coaches, Hugh Freeze was the first choice to return championships to Ole Miss Football and was introduced as the Rebels’ 37th head coach on December 5, 2011.
He certainly is off to a good start.
Inheriting a team that won just two games in 2011 and had lost 14 straight Southeastern Conference games, Freeze led Ole Miss to seven wins in 2012, including three SEC victories, and the team’s first bowl berth since 2009.
A month after the Rebels capped the season with a 38-17 win over Pittsburgh in the BBVA Compass Bowl, Ole Miss was the talk of National Signing Day when Freeze and Co. landed a consensus top-10 class that was ranked as high as No. 2 by 247Sports and No. 5 by ESPN- the highest recorded signing class rankings in school history.
Freeze is the sixth head coach in program history to direct his team to a bowl appearance in his first season. The Rebels’ seven wins could have been even more had they not lost three tight SEC games (Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, at LSU) by a combined 10 points.
The Rebel offense saw a dramatic turnaround under Freeze in 2012. With many of the same players, he took a team that had ranked at or near the bottom of the SEC in 2011 to rank top five in the league and top 50 in the nation in scoring, total offense and passing.

I have some things to say about Deacon Jones, watching him in the late 60’s and 70’s he would tear your helmet off just to get the quarterback, and did he ever get to the quarterback. Deacon Jones was the most feared defensive end in the game at the time. The line men could not stop him, they tried, boy did they try. If Deacons Jones played today he would not put up with this stuff, like the dancing in the endzone….. he would probably target that receiver for celebrating and catch him on a cross route. Deacon Jones was a tough man on the field, and he played every down. In the video with Dick Butkus Deacon Jones talks about how him and Butkus were very alike on the field, they played every play, and every down.
North Carolina ousted LSU from the CWS 2013, 4 to 2
LSU Baseball has closed out the season to as they dropped a loss to North Carolina. The Tigers had some chances to even the score but stranded runners on the base paths. In the bottom of the eight LSU had bases loaded with 2 outs and Larid who was 3 for 5 on the day flied out to right to end the inning. Hats off to the Tigers who went 57-11 for the year. Holberton for the Tar Heels drove a pitch over the center wall for a 391 ft home run as North Carolina took a 2 -0 lead in the 1st, that pretty much set the tone for the game. It was tough for Glenn to be able to give up a home run like that especially in the 1 inning. The Tigers get to regroup take some time off and hopefully do it all over again next year and get to Omaha. North Carolina goes on now to wait for the winner from the UCLA vs N.c.State game which is later this evening. LSU joins Louisville for the summer as the 2nd team to get knocked out of the College World Series 2013.

UCLA hustles and get’s a win over LSU 2 to 1. UCLA depended on bunts and base running which very few teams have ever bunted there way to a College World Series, this might be the 1st year if UCLA makes it to the Championship game. I might say, it’s just not classic baseball, but it get’s the job done. UCLA said it best in the interview they play small ball. The funny thing UCLA tried to fool LSU but they didn’t even budge the base runner. UCLA are full of trickery, bunts and base running….. Good luck to UCLA as they go and face N.C. State…..
