LSU Tigers the real DBU

Who is the real DBU, well when LSU destroyed Georgia last year about the same time they are playing Florida for Homecoming on saturday night in Tiger Stadium kinda sums up alot of things. Do I see LSU beating Florida like they beat Georgia 36-16 last year maybe not but if Florida starts fumbling the ball the way they did last week against Auburn in the first quarter, it might be a long night for the Gators in Death Valley. The Gators I think are a very undisciplined team and will have a rough time come saturday.

LSU QB Joe Burrow is putting up great numbers if he continues to do so and had over 400 passing yards against the Texas proclaimed DBU, the Florida DBU is in big trouble, especially Homecoming in Death Valley on a saturday night. I think the LSU team has alittle payback on their mind from last year ,and something amazing Felipe Franks saying before the season started, we are gonna hang 50 on every team, I wonder what was he smoking. I think the Florida DBU are gonna have its hands full with the LSU talented receivers Justin Jefferson, JA’MARR Chase, and Terrance Marshall ,jr who have a combined 19 touchdowns and 1,300 yards, I think the Florida DBU will have there hands full come saturday night. Thaddus Moss and Derrick Dillon will be giving them fits too and the punishing LSU backs Edwards-Elaire, Emery Jr, and Davis-Price will be spending plenty of time in the secondary. There you have it folks until saturday night in Death Valley Homecoming for the LSU Tigers.

LSU’S BURROW NAMED MAXWELL AWARD NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

BATON ROUGE – LSU’s Joe Burrow added another award to his list on Tuesday as the senior quarterback was named the Maxwell Award National Player of the Week for his play in the 45-38 win over ninth-ranked Texas on Saturday in Austin.

Burrow was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this year on Monday.

Burrow connected on 31-of-39 passes for a career-best 471 yards and four touchdowns in the win over the Longhorns. The 31 completions and his 479 yards of total offense were also career highs as the Tigers beat a Top 10 non-conference opponent in a true road game for the first time in school history.

Burrow and the Tigers iced the game late in the fourth quarter when he connected with Justin Jefferson on a 61-yard touchdown pass that extended LSU’s lead to 45-31 with 2:21 to play. Burrow threw a total of three TD passes to Jefferson with the other two covering 6 and 21 yards in the first half. Burrow added a fourth TD pass to Terrace Marshall Jr. in the fourth quarter.

Burrow’s 471 passing yards and 479 yards of total offense rank as the second-highest totals in school history, while the 31 completions is third in LSU history. He also extended his school-record streak of consecutive games with at least 20 completions to five straight. Burrow is now 12-3 as LSU’s starting quarterback.

Through two games, Burrow leads the SEC in passing yards per game (374.5), touchdown passes (9), completions (54), and total offense (379.5).

Burrow and the Tigers return to action on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. when they host Northwestern State in Tiger Stadium. Tickets for the game are still available and can be purchased at www.LSUtix.net.

CUSHENBERRY AND CHAISSON TO WEAR NO. 18 FOR LSU IN 2019

BATON ROUGE – Two LSU standouts – both in the classroom and on the football field – have been awarded the No. 18 jersey as head coach Ed Orgeron presented center Lloyd Cushenberry and outside linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson with the prestigious number on Thursday night.

Cushenberry, a junior from Dutchtown High School in Geismar, becomes the first offensive lineman to wear No. 18. Chaisson is a redshirt sophomore from North Shore High School in Houston.

Both players were presented their new number at a team meeting that wrapped up LSU’s first day of training camp.

As an offensive lineman, the rules of college football prevent Cushenberry from actually wearing the No. 18 jersey so instead his No. 79 jersey will be accompanied by a No. 18 patch. Chaisson, who wore No. 4 a year ago, will wear No. 18 on the field.

It’s the second time since the tradition started back in 2003 that two Tigers have been issued the No. 18 jersey in the same season. Tight end J.D. Moore and current LSU graduate assistant Christian LaCouture both wore No. 18 in 2017.

LSU’s jersey No. 18 tradition was born in 2003 when quarterback Matt Mauck led the Tigers to their first national title in football since 1958. Mauck’s No. 18 became synonymous with success – both on and off the field – as well as a selfless attitude that has become the epitome of being an LSU football player.

After his final season at LSU, Mauck passed the No. 18 jersey down to running back Jacob Hester, who later led the Tigers to another national title in 2007.

Cushenberry and Chaisson join an impressive list of LSU standouts to wear No. 18, including tight end Foster Moreau, who donned the jersey in 2018. Moreau was drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and graduated from LSU in December of last year with a degree in sports administration.

Here’s a complete list of the former players to wear No. 18

EIGHT TIGERS NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-SEC TEAM

BATON ROUGE – Eight LSU football players – four on offense and four on defense – have been named preseason All-Southeastern Conference as voted on by members of the media, the league office announced on Friday.

The preseason All-SEC team, as well as the predicted order of finish for the league, was determined in a vote of media attendees at the recently concluded SEC Media Days in Hoover, Alabama. LSU was picked to finish second in the SEC Western Division behind Alabama.

On offense, LSU center Lloyd Cushenberry earned first team honors with guard Damien Lewis being a second team selection and quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receiver Justin Jefferson earning third team recognition.

Cushenberry and Lewis were the only Tiger offensive linemen to start every game last year and helped power an LSU offense that averaged 32.4 points and 402.1 total yards per game. LSU also featured a 1,000-yard rusher for the sixth straight season.

Burrow set five school records in what was his first year as LSU’s starting quarterback, leading the Tigers to a 10-3 mark and a No. 6 final ranking. Burrow, who became the first player in LSU history to throw for at least 2,800 yards and rush for at least 375 yards in the same season, ranked sixth in the SEC in total offense with 253.3 yards per game.

Jefferson became the first player to lead the Tigers in every receiving category in the same season since Rueben Randle in 2011. Jefferson led the Tigers in receptions (54), yards (875), yards per catch (16.2) and touchdowns (6).

Defensively, returning All-America Grant Delpit and defensive end Rashard Lawrence were both named first team with cornerback Kristian Fulton on the second team and linebacker Jacob Phillips on the third team.

Delpit, who is rated as the No. 1 defensive back by USA Today going into 2019, led the SEC in interceptions with five and finished second in the league in passes defended with 14 a year ago as he earned unanimous All-America honors.

Lawrence capped his junior year in 2018 by earning defensive player of the game honors in LSU’s win over UCF in the Fiesta Bowl. He finished the season with 54 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 4.0 sacks.

Phillips is LSU’s leading returning tackler from a year ago as he recorded 87 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and a sack, while Fulton started 10 games at cornerback and posted 25 tackles, one interception and 10 passes defended. Fulton has been tabbed as a preseason All-America and rated as the No. 3 defensive back in college football by USA Today.

BURROW, DELPIT AND CUSHENBERRY TO JOIN COACH O AT SEC MEDIA DAY

BATON ROUGE – LSU head coach Ed Orgeron will be joined by quarterback Joe Burrow, center Lloyd Cushenberry and All-America defensive back Grant Delpit when the Tigers take their turn at SEC Media Day next Monday in Hoover, Ala.., the league office announced on Wednesday.

SEC Media Days begin on the morning of Monday, July 15 and runs through Thursday, July 18. LSU will be paired with Florida for the afternoon session on Monday.

Orgeron, who enters his third full season as head coach of the Tigers, guided LSU to a 10-3 overall mark and a No. 6 final ranking a year ago. LSU beat previously undefeated and No. 7 UCF in the Fiesta Bowl for its first New Year’s Six bowl victory since the new format was adopted in 2014. The Tigers also had their first 10-win season since 2013 and its first Top 10 final ranking since 2011.

Burrow, LSU’s returning starter at quarterback, is coming off a record-setting season, one that saw him set school marks for plays in a season (507), rushing TDs by a quarterback in a season (7), consecutive passes without an interception (158), pass attempts in a season (379), touchdowns responsible for in a game (6 vs. Texas A&M), and passing touchdowns in a bowl game (4 vs. UCF).

Burrow is also the first player in LSU history to throw for at least 2,500 yards and rush for at least 350 yards in a season. Last year, Burrow threw for 2,894 yards and rushed for 399 yards.

Delpit is coming off an outstanding sophomore season as he became just the ninth unanimous All-America in school history. Delpit led the SEC in interceptions (5) and finished second in the league in passes defended (14) a year ago.

The junior from Houston has already been named to several preseason All-America teams heading into 2019.

Cushenberry enters his second season as LSU’s starting center after serving in that capacity for all 13 games a year ago. Cushenberry was one of only four offensive players to start every game in 2018.

Cushenberry enters 2019 as a candidate for the Rimington Award, which is presented annually to college football’s top center.
