Jeremy Schaap looks back on the 1992 United States Olympic basketball team, forever known as the “Dream Team”.Simply put, the single, greatest basketball team ever assembled. Period! You will never see another team like this, Larry Bird, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Chris Mullins, Magic Johnson, Karl Malone, John Stockton,Clyde Drexler, Scottie Pippen, Christian Laettner,(College Graduate),and the one and only Michael Jordan. The Dream Team won their games by a average of 45 points a game.Scottie Pipen was alittle upset at the Bulls winning the NBA Championship for a second time in a roll,Chicago management was holding money from Pippen, so they could lure up and coming future Bull Toni Kukoc who played for Croatian. Jordan and Pippen combined for 11 steals in the first half.Kukoc made two of the 11 shots he attempted and finished with seven turnovers.Charles Barkley said, “Dude, it was scary what they did to Kukoc.”Knicks star Patrick Ewing offered a similar sentiment. “That was the best defense I ever saw Michael and Scottie play.A side note on the Dream Team, Jordan agreed to play on the team but there was one codition he told Chuck Daly,I will play on the Dream Team but not if Isaiah Thomas is on the team. I remember back in the 1992 NBA Season when Thomas was not selected and he notice John Stockton was selected he got really upset and scored 45 against Stockton during the season. Well Thomas made a few enemies amongest the NBA Players, calling Larry Bird overrated after the Pistons beat the Celtics in a playoff series, Bird never forgave him, and fired him 2 years later as the coach of the Indiana Pacers, Malone had his differences with Thomas as well, the two never got along, in the 1991 season Malone deilever A serious elbow to the head and gave the point guard 41. Stockton had a stress fracture in his leg and might have got replace on the Dream Team but made the trip anyway to Barcelona. Joe Dumars would have been the replacement for Stockton, not Isaiah Thomas. They said the Dream Team was very noticeable walking down the streets in Venice, except Stockton. I am sure Stockton preferred it like that because he likes being low-key. I am a big Stockton fan, I have 3 of his jerseys, one of the Jerseys happens to be the Dream Team Jersey no.12.
