Alabama Saban talks about playing LSU and jokes some too, Coaches media tele-conference
Alabama Coach Saban started off by saying obviously biggest game of the year, our players trying to get ready all week. We are looking forward to a great football game. LSU Defense is well coached, very sound and discipline, a really good defense, a quality defensive team. Depth is a critical factor, Don James told Saban before a bottom 40 football team reflects your team than the top 40 football team.
Coach Saban was asked how he coached when he was at LSU , perhaps locking down the whole state of Louisiana in recruiting and he responded in saying you need to develop a quality program, and the best players u can get, most important to get the guys in your home state.
Saban was asked about LSU’s passing attack, he said they have a talented group of WRS, and a talented QB, with a vertical game, and more explosive plays. Saban said , the LSU offensive line, athletic, playing together, a very good offensive line.
Coach Saban was asked about LSU Coach Pete Jenkins, who used to coach with Saban at Alabama, he was asked if was he surprised to see Pete. Pete would come visit us much as possible, hoping to trade secrets, we were trying to get secrets from him when he would visit, that’s why we invited him to come visit….. Talk about a funny comment. Today as a sportswriter I got to see a different and funny side of Nick Saban. No.1 Alabama faces No.15 LSU this saturday night with National Title Implications, this game normally decides who goes to the SEC Title and to the National Championship. A Big Game indeed come saturday night at Death Valley.
LSU Coach Orgeron on the Coaches media tele-conference
At the Coaches Media Tele-conference today LSU Coach Ed Orgeron started the morning off talking about recruiting and doing it everyday. He says Dave Aranda is the smartest coach on the field, he started coaching in a division 3 school, he knows every position on the field. Dave would go spend alot of money on notebooks and not have too money left over for food in his younger days. Orgeron said, he always wonder how Dave would take the lot of notes, with so much writing, that would result as his power, his knowledge and work ethic. Orgeron has learned to let the staff manage their positions, you just have to let them run their positions. Coach O talked about you can’t treat quarterbacks like defense of lineman, every player is different. Pete Jenkins is on the LSU Coaching staff, and he coached with Pete Carol at USC, and Nick Saban. Orgeron has said, Pete is loyal as a like a big bulldog. He knows everyone in the country, but very loyal to LSU. Jenkins has giving ED information on Saban. Funny cause Saban was asked this morning if Jenkins was coming around to get some coaching secrets, and Nick Saban responded that’s why we invite them over hopefully to get some from them…LOL. Pete Jenkins has helped Coach O change his methods at USC from asst coach to head coach, because you get to the point where you let the Asst. Coaches do their jobs, and that’s why they are there. Coach O said he would comeback to Louisiana to recruit for Syracuse wearing his Syracuse shirts, in Louisiana back in the 90’s. Coach O has always wanted to coach at LSU especially driving over the Mississippi Bridge looking over to Tiger Stadium wanting to return to Death Valley. Coach O has said many of times Leonard Fournette is the best player in the game in college football, show me someone better, he says, Fournette is motivated to play Alabama, he wants success vs Alabama. Both teams expect to have great execution, it’s gonna be a battle. Coach Orgeron team is 3-0 since he has taken over, I would say his LSU Teams kinda of remind me of Pete Carrols team in 2000 to thru 2010 when they used to steam roll other teams. I spent time in LA during the Pete Carrol Era going to games at the LA Coliseum and saw alot of blowout games their in LA.
